IntraLASIK - Custom Blade-Free LASIK by IntraLASE

If you are looking for a 100% blade-free LASIK experience that virtually eliminates almost all the most severe, sight-threatening complications, the answer is IntraLASIK.

At the LaserStar Eye Center, we are proud to offer IntraLASIK, a form of LASIK laser eye surgery made possible by the IntraLase laser, to our patients in the San Francisco, San Jose, South Bay, East Bay and Santa Rosa Areas. IntraLASIK is a proven, computer-controlled, all-laser technology, and it provides LaserStar surgeons with the safest, least invasive option in creating the corneal flap.

With previous LASIK surgery technologies, the corneal flap was created with a surgical instrument called a microkeratome, which is a surgical blade. Overall, the microkeratome has produced excellent results for millions of patients. Although rare, most of the serious complications resulting from LASIK surgery are almost always a result from difficulty making the corneal flap with the microkeratome.

IntraLASIK is a superior alternative to traditional LASIK, because the flap in IntraLASIK is made with a computer-controlled IntraLase laser that produces potentially safer and more dependable results than the microkeratome.

With this advanced IntraLASIK procedure, there is no surgical blade. Instead, a laser beam passes through the outer layers of the cornea to an exact focal depth predetermined by Dr. Bansal and Dr. Singh. LaserVue surgeons customize each corneal flap according to an individual's vision disorder and corneal anatomy. Then, the flap is folded back and the excimer laser reshapes the inner cornea to correct the patient's vision. The benefits of IntraLASIK are unparalleled safety for the patient and unprecedented control for the physician.

The creation of the flap itself takes only about 15-30 seconds per eye. Including preparation time, the entire LASIK procedure takes about 10 minutes.

Why we've invested in the IntraLase Laser:

  • IntraLASIK provides our patients with an extra margin of safety by eliminating potential complications from mechanical microkeratomes.
  • IntraLASIK allows us to perform LASIK on patients with thin corneas because we can make a more precise, shallower flap, which allows us to correct higher levels of refractive error.
  • IntraLASIK provides both the patient and the surgeon with a higher level of confidence knowing the creation of the flap is computer-controlled.
  • IntraLASIK makes laser vision correction an all-laser procedure, which significantly adds to its precision and predictability.
  • IntraLASIK also creates better fitting flaps. Once put back in place, these flaps form a tight seal, making flap dislocation after the procedure more difficult.
  • The corneal flap procedure with IntraLASIK, using the IntraLase Laser is painless and more comfortable as there is much less pressure placed on the cornea with the laser vs. the mechanical microkeratome. IntraLase Facts
